A few days ago I had the opportunity to travel on mocanita’s line in Viseu with a motor car, locally called “drezina”. Although the line is not so smooth and you can feel all the line joints and curves this is an experience hard to forget. We left after the tourism trains left Viseu station pulled by the steam locomotives and we reach the last one at the first water point. Shortly after we had to proceed with cautious as the first tourism train pulled by Elvetia steam locomotive was in our view. In Paltin we passed this train also and in front of us only the production train pulled by the 87-0033 diesel engine was to pass. But passing by this train in Bardau the line was wet in front of us and this was a tricky problem for the small dresine. But not for its driver, an experienced boy that knows the line joint by joint, almost stone by stone. The amazing turning over show you are about to see was shoot in Valea Babei and the entire process takes only a few minutes. |

Just the other day I was looking for some technical footage with “Mariuta” (764-211, the 1910 Orenstein&Koppel) steam locomotive I remembered about this part of wheels and connecting roods filmed in 2005. By that time mocanita 764-211 was in Viseu de Sus for only a few months after its restoration. Although this was made in September and the work was finished in May that year we ware still testing and supervising how locomotive was working. For a special test we needed to see how the wheels and springs are working together so I placed the camera steady on the frame. More to come… |

The steam locomotive "Mariuta" (764-211, 1910 Orenstein&Koppel) passing Botizu station on CFF Viseu de Sus (Maramures forestry steam narrow gauge railway in Romania). Latter this train reach Faina where the empty wagons ware loaded with logs for the trip back to Viseu. |

The steam locomotive Mariuta is pulling a production train up to Faina station in Maramures Mountains. The narrow gauge steam locomotive was built in Munchen in 1910 by Orenstein & Koppel and now, after almost 100 years, is working just as new on CFF Viseu de Sus, in Romania. On this snowy day of 2008 the steam locomotive was pulling up an empty train in order to provide the necessary wagons to carry the logs down to Viseu. |

A short film from the 2008 Mocanita New Year's Eve party. "Elvetia" steam locomotive left Viseu de Sus pulling the train deep in the forest away from the classic city parties. Up in the forest there was one of the most beautiful fireworks show. So big and beautiful that perhaps even the Ukrainians watch it.

On the 27th of September Mariuta took
a trip to Faina pulling a two passenger wagons (the green and blue ones)
and a few logs wagons. The weather was beautiful and the autumn images
determined us to take the video camera for a few moments. Here are some
video images from this trip and hope you enjoy these as much as we did! |
